Horimoto, (213) 894-7987 The United States District Court, Central District of California, is inviting teachers to participate in the 11th annual Federal Court Teachers’ Institute program. The program will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the United States Courthouse, 312 N. Spring Street, Room 1001 (10th floor), Los Angeles, California. This year’s topic is “The First Amendment and Social Media: Student Rights, Wrongs and Responsibilities.” The purpose of this year’s presentation is to provide junior high and high school teachers with a foundation for discussing with their students the applicability of First Amendment rights to a situation involving the use of social media in a high school setting. The program, hosted by the Honorable Consuelo B. Marshall, will be interactive and will include teacher/panel discussions, a presentation by attorney panelists, and teacher debates. Question and answer sessions will be interspersed throughout the program. Written materials will be provided. Teachers from 21 different junior high and high schools located within the Central District of California have already registered for this program.
