Jay C. Gandhi is a United States Magistrate Judge for the Central District of California, and was appointed in 2010.
Prior to his appointment, Judge Gandhi was a litigation partner at Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm. Judge Gandhi practiced law for nearly 12 years at Paul Hastings.
Judge Gandhi specialized in complex business litigation and class actions. He represented both plaintiffs and defendants, and his practice areas included securities, real estate, intellectual property, employment, unfair competition, and general commercial litigation. During his tenure at Paul Hastings, Judge Gandhi also served as Vice-Chair of the firm’s Orange County office and as its Chair of Associate Development.
While in practice, Judge Gandhi was repeatedly recognized as a “Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star.”
Judge Gandhi is a prolific speaker and writer. Judge Gandhi frequently lectures about best practices in federal court litigation, including on behalf of the American Bar Association and the Department of Justice.
He also has several publications to his credit, including in Bloomberg Law Reports, the Los Angeles Daily Journal, and the San Francisco Recorder, and is a co-author of the book “Securities Litigation: A Practical Guide.”
Judge Gandhi is also an alumnae of the Trial Attorney Partnership with the Orange County District Attorney’s office where he worked on a full-time basis as a volunteer Deputy District Attorney.
Judge Gandhi is committed to Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is currently a Vice-Chair of the Court’s ADR Committee, and a former Co-Chair of the ADR Committee of the ABA’s Litigation Section. He is also a former board member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and the Federal Bar Association.
Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Judge Gandhi was a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt.
Judge Gandhi graduated Order of the Coif from the University of Southern California Law School. |
