MEDIA DAY AT THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE

In an effort to assist the news media in its service of informing the public about high profile trials and court hearings that take place within the federal court, the Central District is hosting a half-day presentation to all media personnel on December 6, 2001, at the U.S. Courthouse, 312 N. Spring Street, Courtroom 2, Los Angeles, California. The seminar, which focuses on the media and the court’s policies and procedures, will be conducted by the chief judge with presentations by federal judges and court personnel. Some of the topics to be covered are:
  • an overview of the Central District of California;
  • court sponsored educational/community outreach programs;
  • history of the federal court and court etiquette;
  • procedures developed by the district court that inform the media about federal court trials and hearings while ensuring the fair, complete and accurate reporting about such trials and hearings;
  • procedures developed by the district court that accommodate all media with the same degree of access but with the least disruption to court proceedings;
  • procedures for high profile cases;
  • radio, television and photography access;
  • procedures on how to track a civil case;
  • introduction to the “media” section on the court’s website.

The program will conclude with a tour of the clerk’s office and courthouse.
